String Orchestras

“EYM was a fabulous experience for him, which encouraged him to continue playing and to stretch himself”

The Junior String Orchestra is designed to take over where the violin, viola and cello classes finish. When children decide, after two years of learning one of these instruments in an EYM group, that they would like to have individual private lessons, they can continue playing in a group by joining the Junior String Orchestra. This would normally be at Primary 5 or Primary 6 level.  There is also a Senior String Orchestra, which caters for children above the level of approximately grade 3 who are at secondary school.  Both String Orchestras are also open to children of similar levels, who have learned their instruments outwith EYM.  Double bass players are also welcome in the orchestras.  There is no upper age limit; currently the oldest pupils are 16. The cost is £6.05 per week during the 2024/25 session. There are currently places available for new members with suitable experience.

The orchestras are taught by Anne Giles with help from several student assistants.
